Horror Films of the 1990s

Horror Films of the 1990s Review

This detailed filmography surveys more than 300 horror films that were released in the years 1990 through 1999. The horror genre's trends, cliches and patterns of the decade are connected to social and cultural phenomena, such as Y2K fears and the Los Angeles Riots. Among the popular forms of this period were films about serial killers, aliens, conspiracies, and sinister "interlopers," new monsters who shambled their way into the lives of everyday people to wreak havoc on screen.

Dead Mourning: A Zombie Horror Story

Dead Mourning: A Zombie Horror Story Review

Carl Jenkins was having a run of bad luck. Fresh out of jail, his probation tenuous, he'd lost every job he'd taken since being released. So now was his last chance, only one more job to prevent him from going back to prison. Assigned to work in a funeral home, he accidentally loses a shipment of embalming fluid. With nothing to lose, he substitutes it with a batch of chemicals from a nearby factory. The results don't go as planned, though. While his screw-up goes unnoticed, his machinations revive the cadavers in the funeral home, unleashing an evil on the world that it has not seen before. Not wanting to become a snack for the rampaging dead, he flees the city, joining up with other survivors. An old, dilapidated zoo becomes their haven, while the dead wait outside the walls, hungry and patient. But Carl is optimistic, after all, he's still alive, right? Perhaps his luck has changed and help will arrive to save them all? Unfortunately, unknown to him and the other survivors, a serial killer has fallen into their group, trapped inside the zoo with them. With the undead army clamoring outside the walls and a murderer within, it'll be a miracle if any of them live to see the next sunrise. On second thought, maybe Carl would've been better off if he'd just gone back to jail.

I Was a Cold War Monster: Horror Films, Eroticism, and the Cold War Imagination

I Was a Cold War Monster: Horror Films, Eroticism, and the Cold War Imagination Review

Horror films provide a guide to many of the sociological fears of the Cold War era. In an age when warning audiences of impending death was the order of the day for popular nonfiction, horror films provided an area where this fear could be lived out to its ghastly conclusion. Because enemies and potential situations of fear lurked everywhere, within the home, the government, the family, and the very self, horror films could speak to the invasive fears of the cold war era. I Was a Cold War Monster examines cold war anxieties as they were reflected in British and American films from the fifties through the early sixties. This study examines how cold war horror films combined anxiety over social change with the erotic in such films as Psycho, The Tingler, The Horror of Dracula, and House of Wax.

Horrors!

Horrors! Review

Amazing Tales of the Macabre including Matters Morbid; Bits of Famous Folk; Shocking "Cures"; Strange Deaths and Bizarre People.
Awfully fascinating and fascinatingly awful facts and stories to give you chills or make you wonder.
Learn which English King was used as bait by a fisherman; the third cheapest way of making a mummy; which aristocrat was known as "The Cannabilistic Idiot"; the Auction of Dead Cats; why a circus elephant was publicly hanged in America and the German military leader who died dressed as a ballerina.
Lots more to shudder at. Dare you read it? Go on - you know you want to.

Seed

Seed Review

Fans of Stephen King, Jack Kilborn, and Blake Crouch… prepare to meet the Devil.

In the vine-twisted swamps of Louisiana, the shadows have teeth.

Jack Winter has spent his entire life running from something no one else can see. His childhood is his darkest secret, but after a near fatal accident along a deserted road, the darkness he was sure he’d escaped rears its ugly head… and smiles.

But this time, he isn’t the only one who sees the soulless eyes of his past. This time, his six-year-old daughter Charlie leans into his ear and whispers: "Daddy, I saw it too."

And then she begins to change.

Faced with reliving the nightmares of his childhood, Jack watches his daughter spiral into the shadows that had nearly consumed him twenty years before.

But Charlie isn’t the only one who’s changing.

Jack never outran the darkness. It’s been with him all along.

And it’s hungrier than ever.

A new breed of dark fiction: the subtlety of Seed will haunt you, and the end will wickedly satisfy.
